Division of Teaching and Learning
The Division of Teaching and Learning builds partnerships across UCF to enhance student-learning outcomes. In collaboration with UCF’s colleges, the Division of Teaching and Learning facilitates an integrative approach to learning by offering academic experiences that take learning beyond the classroom. The units that comprise the Division of Teaching and Learning are Academic Advancement Programs, EXCEL, Experiential Learning, Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising and Undergraduate Research.
Academic Advancement Programs

Academic Advancement Programs (AAP) prepares UCF students – particularly underrepresented, low-income, and first-generation college students – to pursue advanced degrees. AAP works in collaboration with faculty, staff, local, and national partners to provide a range of graduate school preparation programs and services. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of initiatives designed to increase their awareness and knowledge of the graduate school application process, graduate funding, summer research programs, and fellowship opportunities.
AAP coordinates the McNair Scholars Program that assists participants gain admission to graduate programs leading to a doctorate. They also oversee the UCF Research and Mentoring Program (RAMP) that provides undergraduate students interested in pursuing advanced degrees with research experience and the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor.
EXCEL

EXCEL strives to increase the number of students receiving baccalaureate degrees in STEM disciplines from UCF. The program strives to enhance EXCEL students’ experience during the first two years of college through improved student learning in math and science courses, block housing shared by STEM-focused students, a tutoring center, and early engagement in research experiences. EXCEL participants also work in cohorts, making it easy for them to team up with study partners in required courses that may have several hundred students.
Experiential Learning

Experiential Learning (OEL) provides students with the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-world settings. In collaboration with UCF colleges and faculty, employers, and community leaders, OEL prepares students for academic and career success through experiential learning courses such as internships, co-ops, and service learning opportunities. Through these experiences, students gain essential skills, such as leadership, communication, and critical thinking.
Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising

Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising (PHPL Advising) guides and supports students interested in pursuing careers in the health and legal professions that require academic study in professional school settings beyond the baccalaureate degree. The PHPL Advising mentors guide students through the multiple aspects of their preparation and application, with the ultimate goal of helping them become a competitive professional school applicant.

Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Research (OUR) provides students with the opportunity to engage in academic research, scholarship and creative work. Working closely with faculty, these students gain knowledge and build skills, such as critical thinking, communication and problem-solving. This experience prepares them for success in graduate or professional school or their career. OUR provides peer advising, as well as a “How-To” workshop series, for students interested in research, as well as those who want to make the most out of their research experience. They also have the opportunity to present their work at an annual on-campus research showcase and in UCF’s undergraduate research journal.
